St Louis Abbey Church

Under the Patronage of Saint Mary and Saint Louts

The Abbey was founded from Ampleforth Abbey in 1955 and became an independent House in 1973. Today the community numbers 19 monks of whom three quarters are American-born. The monastery operates a day school for boys in grades 7-12 (12 to 18 years old). There are 395 students. Several beautiful buildings have been erected on the 150 acre campus and the church was renovated in 1995. In addition to running the local parish of Saint Anselm, the monks have frequent interaction with the Catholic community, and the monastery addition completed in 2001 has helped to provide a hospitable, welcoming atmosphere while at the same time preserving monastic quiet and apartness.

In 1989 in accordance with the new EBC Constitutions the priory was raised to the status of an abbey, and Dom Luke Rigby was elected as the first Abbot. He was succeeded by Dom Thomas Frerking in July 1995.
